Strike! is a historical stage musical depicting the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919. It focuses on Mike Sokolowski, a Ukrainian immigrant from Galicia killed by the Royal North-West Mounted Police on Bloody Saturday, June 21, 1919. The account is heavily fictionalized with a composite character. Sokolowski starts as an antisemite loathing Jewish Bolshevism but learns tolerance partly through a romantic subplot involving his godson Stefan and Jewish neighbor Rebecca.
Known as the composer, lyricist, and co-writer of the musical Strike! about the Winnipeg General Strike, which has seen multiple performances and adaptations into radio, film, and more. Also directed a related documentary.
