Legacy
John L. Thomas Jr. was a Maryland lawyer and politician. After admission to the bar in 1856 he practiced in Cumberland, later serving in Baltimore municipal legal offices and as State's Attorney. He represented Maryland in the U.S. House from 1865 to 1867 and later served multiple terms as collector of the port of Baltimore. He is remembered as a regional public official active in post–Civil War Maryland politics.
