Renowned Spanish children's literature author who received the Hans Christian Andersen Medal. Best known for Marcelino Bread and Wine, adapted into the successful 1955 film Miracle of Marcelino.
Trivia
- His father, also a journalist close to anarchism, went into exile in 1939.
- Family was unstructured; he was practically a vagrant child and attended orphan institutions where he learned typing and shorthand.
- During the Spanish Civil War, remained in Republican Madrid and worked with the Falange until Nationalists entered.
