Ned Sublette is known both for his musical fusion of country and Afro-Caribbean styles and for his scholarly and popular writings on Cuban music and New Orleans history. As a researcher, performer, and producer, he has contributed to the introduction of Latin music in the U.S. and to historical scholarship.
