| 1989 | American Book Awards | Repairing America: An Account of the Movement for Japanese American Redress | — | Before Columbus Foundation | 受賞 |
A personal account of the internment of Japanese Americans and the movement for redress. It chronicles the class-action efforts, advocacy leading to congressional legislation, and Hohri's reflections on the struggle for justice.
Hohri was a central activist in the movement for redress for Japanese American internment during WWII and served as lead plaintiff in a class-action suit. Although the suit was dismissed, his advocacy helped pave the way for the Civil Liberties Act of 1988. He is also recognized for his written account of the movement.
(The government's actions were) consistent with the general pattern of discrimination already established before the war.
