Legacy

Yu Cong was a mid-to-late Tang dynasty official who served as a de facto chancellor and as a jiedushi. Married into the imperial family, he came from a prominent official lineage. He is noted for refusing to serve the rebel Huang Chao and being executed after the capture of Chang'an. His biography appears in the Old Book of Tang, New Book of Tang, and Zizhi Tongjian, and his life illustrates the challenges of court politics and civil unrest in late Tang.
