Introduced in 1960, it initially awarded prizes in six categories: poetry, novels, short stories, essays, children's literature, and translation. Since 1985, an award for overall contributions has been added, and it is now awarded in three fields: "Poetry, Novels, Short Stories," "Research, Essays, Science," and "Translation, Drama, Children's Literature."
