The Compton Crook Award (also known as Compton Crook/Stephen Tall Award) is presented by the Baltimore Science Fiction Society (BSFS), which selects the best English-language debut novel (science fiction, fantasy, horror) of the year through voting by BSFS members and honors it at the annual Balticon (Memorial Day weekend). Established in 1983. Winners receive $1,000 cash and a plaque, with Balticon attendance support provided for 2 years. The nominee list is published in the club's monthly newsletter, and members read and vote.
