説明

Established in 1998 by John Gleed in memory of his late wife Danuta Gleed. Administered and presented by the Writers' Union of Canada, targeting debut short story collections by Canadian authors written in English. The prize was initially CAD 5,000, increased to CAD 10,000 from 2004. Runners-up each receive CAD 500. Nominations are due by the end of January each year, with the shortlist and winner announced by judges in spring (around May to June). Judging is conducted by a panel of changing Canadian writers, critics, publishers, etc.

  • Must be the author's debut short story collection (first published short story collection)
  • Must be written in English
  • Author must be Canadian (by nationality or residence)
  • Literary quality as short stories, narrative persuasiveness, consistency and diversity
  • Originality and expressiveness
