Description
The Doug Wright Awards were established in 2004 and have been presented annually since 2005 (usually in May, during Toronto Comic Arts Festival) for Canadian comics/graphic novels. It honors outstanding works published in English (including translations) and webcomics. Winners are selected by a jury panel with diverse backgrounds from a shortlist created by the Nominating Committee (usually 5 comics experts). Categories include Best Book, The Nipper (newcomers), Pigskin Peters (small publishers/experimental works), The Egghead (children's books, started 2020). Winners receive wooden and glass trophies (Best Book/Nipper), a custom derby hat for Pigskin Peters, and custom bound copies of the winning works. The organizer also inducts at least one person annually into "Giants of the North: The Canadian Cartoonist Hall of Fame".
