Description
The Eugène Marais Prize is a South African literary award presented by the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns for early or debut publications in Afrikaans. Renamed in 1971 after poet and researcher Eugène Marais. No genre restrictions; targets only works published in the previous calendar year. Authors can receive this award only once. As of 2009, the prize money was R22,000, sponsored by ABSA and Rapport. Winners are typically announced via Akademie press releases, etc.
