Description

The Jalal Al-e Ahmad Literary Awards is an Iranian literary prize presented yearly since 2008 on the birthday of writer Jalal Al-e Ahmad. The top winner traditionally receives 110 Bahar Azadi gold coins (about USD 33,000), making it one of Iran's most lucrative literary awards; in some years no top winner is selected and other winners may receive smaller amounts of gold coins. Categories include novel, short story, literary criticism and documentation/historiography. The award was confirmed by the Supreme Cultural Revolution Council in 2005; the first award ceremony was held in 2008.
