Colson Whitehead こるそん ほわいとへっど Winner

Set at the Nickel Academy reform school in 1960s Florida, the novel follows Elwood, who is sent there on a false charge, and his friendship with the more hard-bitten Turner as institutional violence and racism crush young lives. Drawing on the history of a real reform school, it asks hard questions about dignity, survival, and moral choice.

Inside the walls of the reform school, the boys are forced to choose between conviction and survival.

Kate Clanchy けいと くらんちー Winner

Drawing on years of teaching experience, the book carefully portrays students, colleagues, and the everyday reality of the classroom. It looks at both the pain and the hope education can produce, and reframes school from the perspective of the people inside it rather than from above.

Through the children she met in the classroom, the outlines of school and society come into focus.
