An American classic—and Pulitzer Prize–winning story—that shows the ultimate bond between child and pet, now in a lush keepsake edition. No novel better epitomizes the love between a child and a pet than The Yearling . When young Jody Baxter adopts and orphaned fawn he calls Flag, he makes it a part of his family and his best friend. But life in the Florida backwoods is harsh, and so, as his family fights off wolves, bears, and even alligators, and faces failure in their tenuous subsistence farming, Jody must finally part with his dear animal friend. There has been a film and even a musical based on this moving story, a fine work of great American literature which won Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings a Pulitzer Prize. Complete with N.C. Wyeth’s original oil paintings, this glowing work features a soft touch cover, gold foiling, and tip-in artwork.

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (1896-1953) is the celebrated American author of The Yearling , which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1939.

    グレゴリーペック出演の映画を見て、いつかは読みたいと探しておりました。少年の心と現実の苦悩、開拓期のアメリカのおおらかさと厳しさが描かれており、ピューリッツアー賞受賞の実力は本物だと思います。

  • A lovely read and very deserving of its Pulitzer Prize award.

  • All along reading this book, I could not forget for a moment. the beauty of the writing and the depth of the writer's knowledge I ordered its movie, hoping the film makers have made it possible to see on the screen all the flowers and scenery depicted in words in the book I will search for other similar masterpieces on Virago line of publishing

  • If ever there was a beautiful book then this is the one. It won the Pulitzer Prize in 1939. The mesmerising tale effortlessly weaves through a series of episodes in the life of a marginal farmer struggling to eke out a living against crushing odds imposed by the surrounding scrub forest. All the characters are memorable. The descriptions of nature bring the sights sounds and smells of that distant forest to your room. The story will stay with you for a long long time. It’s a NOT a children’s book for sure. A must read for all who love nature in all its elements. The special edition with rich paper and beautiful painted illustrations makes it doubly special.

  • I read this as a child and thought I would get it for my granddaughter. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did all those years ago.

  • La vida familiar en una granja pequeña, los avatares que esto implica, el crecimiento del niño a muchacho, y relación con el entorno . Muy recomendable lectura a muchachos, sencillo Inglés
