FABLES(P)
A slim collection of original fables in which animal characters expose human folly with wit and restraint. The book mixes gentle humor with moral clarity.
Work Information
Small animal stories reveal large human weaknesses.
Lobel builds the book from a sequence of brief, self-contained fables, each ending with a clean moral turn. Its lasting appeal comes from the balance between simplicity, humor, and just enough bite.

Full of moral values
Great book contains short stories that give life long lessons to young children. Each story has one moral value to teach the kids. This was the book my kid referred back to again and again when there’s an issue in their lives that makes them reflect about what they had learned from this book. Big lessons for small children.

Good, But Not Quite Twenty Out of Twenty
Whimsical and often witty illustrations of gentle creatures grace the facing pages of each these Aesop-like fables, complete with the ending moral. Easy to read, neither to long nor too short, and the kids like the pictures of animals in human clothing and situations. However, a few stories are rather contrived, and one or two morals needed a good deal more explanation than the story alone could provide. Since there are twenty tales, however, there is still much to recommend in this volume. Both my boys give it a thumbs up (they`re five- and seven-years-old.) The hardcover edition would probably make a good gift.

5,376words Total: 16,045 words

My 4 year old loves the fables.
We have gone through all the fables several times. The illustrations are pleasing to the eye. The book deserved the Caldecott award for both the stories and the beauty of the book. I know eventually, she will be reading the fables to me, having an even better understanding of each fable and its moral.

Yes yes yes! You won't regret buying this!!
If you like well-written children's books with great stories and a varied vocabulary then this is the book for you!!! We took this book on holiday to read to our 3 and 5 year olds and it was the perfect choice!! It has 20 fables (non-religious), one on each page. We read two each night and they mesmerised the children. They are quirky, imaginative, comical and have great messages about how to live life. This author has also written the 'frog and toad' series, which are easily our top favourite books for the same reasons.

great book, highly recommend. Frog and toad is better
Great book for kids, it actually is meaningful! Unlike most children's books these days. Some of the fables aren't great, but it's not bad these days. Definitely his frog and toad series is the best
