Collected Stories for Children (Puffin Books)

Book Information

Amazon.co.jp: Collected Stories for Children (Puffin Books) : Mare, Walter de la: 洋書

I bought this book as I found a reference to it when searching for information about Walter de la Mare. I loved his poems as a child and hearing a reference to The Listeners on the radio prompted to me to see what I could find out about him. These stories whilst apparently written for children contain much for the adult reader too - not for de la Mare the simplistic story! His heroes and heroines seem more like real people than the 'traditional' fairy story; they are more rounded, less perfect and (to me at least) more interesting because of it. I really wish this book were available again as I have several friends with children who I think would appreciate the tales in this book. As it is, I will keep it, read it for myself and look forward to having grandchildren to share it with as my own are now grown up. Highly recommended as something on the unusual side, if you have children and enjoy reading to them give it a try!
