Reviews

  • Great Book!

    Great book!

  • Great book about sharing and sticking together

I grew up loving this book, and I have to say, I'm surprised at the negative reviews. Is being like Aesop's fables bad now?? OK, whatever dude. Anyway. This is basically a story about how it's better to stick together and share, rather than squabble and fight and potentially lose your treat. Could this be interpreted as everyone in the world is selfish and trying to take advantage of you? I guess, but when you're reading a story to kids, I think you have to convey what you want them to take away from it, and in this case, I think that's about sharing. Your kid isn't always going to like books that meets your ideal world view...My kid loves the Pout pout fish, which one could argue celebrates non-consensual kissing and that you should be happy when that happens. We use it to talk about how you can have some control over your feelings and that you should always ask permission before kissing someone. So, take this book as a starting place for talking about sharing (I often get it for friends who are having second children) and how everyone benefits when you share. I like the graphics and, as I said, loved it when I was a kid. It's a bit much for my 18 month old right now (wish it came in a board book), but looking forward to reading it to her soon and I'll continue to buy copies for friends. It's worth a try!

  • for those kids expecting a sib to arrive

Perhaps boys especially are intrigued by the conflict and victory. Our children and grandchildren enjoyed this when preparing for a new sibling to join the household! Recommend.
