This first novel in the series blends a life on the edge of financial collapse with long-buried family secrets that surface after the father's death. Review Summaries
-
Readers often respond well to the heroine's persistence and the unusual zoo setting, and many are drawn in by the way family secrets are revealed piece by piece. At the same time, the book is read as a slow-burn mystery that builds tension gradually rather than rushing toward its reveals.

Excellent book!

I've read all of the books by this author and this one didn't disappoint. I enjoyed the fact that it was set in Austin and I appreciated the character of Katherine. Throw in some cliff hangers and some twists and turns and a good book becomes a suspenseful page turner. I'm very glad I read it and enjoyed it while chewing on my nails!

It is great to see a heroine who is smart, funny and older. The language in the text had me going to the dictionary more than once. I love that. It also made me wish I had paid more attention to the classic philosophers when I was introduced to them in undergraduate school. A good quick read
