The Drowned Book
A collection that follows memory, commemoration, and loss, binding elegies for loved ones to images of water and the underground.
Work Information
A quietly tense book that holds its emotions against the pull of submergence.
Sean O’Brien’s 2007 poetry collection was published by Picador in an 80-page edition. Built around memorial poems, it renders a world sinking into darkness with precision and power.

From one of England's most established poets comes a new collection of poems filled with scabrous wit and lyric assurance that are just as sharp as his five previous award-winning collections. Most recently, OBriens Down River won the 2001 Forward Prize for Best Collection, making him the only poet to have won the Forward Prize twice.
Sean OBrien is a poet, critic, playwright, broadcaster, anthologist, editor, and the only poet to have won the prestigious Forward Prize twice. He is the author of Cousin Coat , Down River , and a translator of Dante's Inferno.

Wonderful
I was lucky enough to be one of Sean O'Brien's pupils at Beacon School and part of his poetry writing group. The brilliance of this book doesn't surprise me and Sean O'Brien is certainly the reason why I have a love of poetry. Buy this book and dip into it on a regular basis - it won't disappoint.
