Reviews

  • A Loving Anthology by a Master

"Before The Golden Age" is Isaac Asimov's (in his words) "Science Fiction Anthology Of The 1930s" in nine parts - one for each year from 1931 through 1939, plus an autobiographical introduction covering 1920-1930. The book includes works from the pulp science fiction magazines by authors such as Edmond Hamilton, P. Schuyler Miller, Charles Tanner, Jack Williamson, Murray Leinster, John Campbell, and himself. These include titles like "Tumithak of the Corridors" (Charles Tanner, 1932), "Born of the Sun" (Jack Williamson, 1934), "The Brain Stealers of Mars" (really) by John W. Campbell (really), 1936, and also "Big Game" by himself, also 1936 - plus a host of others. Mine is yellowed from age, the binding's a little shaky in a place or two - and I wouldn't trade it for anything. About the only downside is that it's too big to read in a bathtub (nor would I risk it).

  • old school scifi!

only read a few so far (it's 900+ plus) but well worth it to see some of the stories of the 30's and their authors

  • Great

    Great

  • Great older sci-first.

One of my favorite anthologies. All with Isaac Asimov's running history and memories. Wonderful.

  • Five Stars
