Elizabeth Enright is the author of many delightful books for children. Her books about the Melendys (The Saturdays, The Four-Story Mistake, The There Were Five, and Spiderweb for Two: A Melendy Maze) gained a wide and enthusiastic audience and are available in Yearling editions.

Reviews

  • Good

    Good quality

  • Wistful nostalgia, even in 1935...

This short book is as much a part of my recollection of childhood, fifty plus years down the line, as the illustrated Canadian version of Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verse that I still have in my bookshelf. I remember the illustrations, and, amazingly after all this time, great chunks of text come rushing back at me as I read... However, it's worth remembering that, even as this book was being written, the golden age of childhood it so perfectly depicts was nostalgia. State fairs, swimming holes, farmer's catalogues and going barefoot all summer... This book should be read before and after Ray Bradbury's "Something Wicked this Way Comes"

  • Book: Thimble Summer by Elizabeth Enright

This book arrived on time in perfect condition. I know that it will be a good book to read as are all of the other books by Elizabeth Enright. It is great that Amazon can offer books that were originally published decades ago.

  • loved by 9 year old girl

Our daughter loves this book and has read it numerous times, the author's other books (Melendy Quartet) are also all fast favorites
