The Ghost Road: 9
Set in France and Britain in the closing months of the First World War, the novel centers on army doctor William Rivers and soldier Billy Prior while exploring shell shock, class, desire, and the feel of death. As the final book in the trilogy, it links private injury with historical violence.
Work Information
At the end of the trenches, only the shadows left by war remain.
Through Billy Prior, Wilfred Owen, and William Rivers, the novel depicts human relationships and psychic strain at the end of the war. It is a heavy but precise final volume that looks not only at battlefield violence but also at the guilt borne by those who try to heal it.

This was the last of a trilogy.
An excellent look at the carnage of war.

Very true.
I thouroughly enjoyed this book, and the trilogy. Well-written, pertinent as to the characters' psychologies, very 'real'.

Excellent novel that movingly explores the horror of WW 1 ...
Excellent novel that movingly explores the horror of WW 1 on the young intellectuals who fought in it. Compelling makes the case that England was not to different from the headhunting tribes it decimated. Poses the question: What is civilization? Without out being didactic. Beautifully written. One of the best novels I've read on this topic.
