A polished and varied collection that moves between hope and unease.
This collection gathers Pat Murphy’s short fiction, where imaginative leaps coexist with emotional texture. Though the stories vary widely, each carefully captures a moment of change.
Review Summaries
-
Readers value the range of the stories and the emotional clarity, though some feel the collection is uneven as a whole.

Great stories
Love these stories by Pat Murphy. I'd read them years ago in anthologies and magazines (yeah, I'm old), but it was nice to have them collected in one place and read them again. I highly recommend her books.

a book about loneliness and how men are bad.
A well-written collection of someone who hates the males of the species. In all, all the stories, women are good, men are bad. The only “good” males are children or simpletons. But all the women are saints. Must be sad being this writer. Half of us are undesirables in her world. Won’t be reading her anymore.

Enjoyed the Stories
There is a lot of variety of characters and plots to keep up interest, and the end of the stories came to soon.

best book, ever
My favorite book in the world. The stories are well-written and compelling. I have two copies of the paperback and they're worn, and the pages are crispy , so I have to be careful reading them. This is Pat Murphy's best work. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves speculative fiction. If it was re-issued, I'd buy another copy.
