Dreamsnake
In a post-apocalyptic world, a traveling healer survives with the help of specially bred snakes. The novel is a quiet post-apocalyptic SF story built around healing, community, and renewal.
Work Information
Even in a ruined world, healing can still be a way of living.
Through a traveling healer and the snakes she keeps, the novel looks at resilience and how communities can be rebuilt after collapse. Its emphasis is less on catastrophe than on the work of continuing care in a damaged world.

物語は、主人公、その名もSnake、が一種、dreamsnake(この正体がなんだか?)

Depth
I remember reading this book years ago and when I saw it available for Kindle I had to try it and see if it's as good as I remember. Some call this a 'strange' story, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The future world and the culture is well drawn, as is the conflict between indigenous population and aliens, those who have and those who have not, and even obsession and addiction. The relationships are well developed and Snake, the female lead, is strong and capable, despite the crippling loss of one of her serpents. Overall, I think there is so much depth within this story that I find something new to think about every time I read it.

what a wonderful novel
I first read the short story Of Mist, of Sand, of Grass when it was first published in Analog Magazine back in the early seventies. It was a moving story, one that I knew would win various awards, and it did. Finally years later I read the book that began with her short story. It’s a wonderful tale of a woman’s quest to obtain another Dreamsnake. Snake, the lead character, goes on a quest for another Dreamsnake after her’s is lost. It’s about her survival in a post apocalypse world where dangers lurk everywhere. It’s a tale of her journey. I won’t say more, but I highly recommend this award winning novel.

Thought-provoking, well-written and engaging
I found this story thoroughly immersing. It has some fascinating concepts, like using modified snake venom for healing. The post-apocalyptic world was well-drawn, with different cultures of humans who had different understanding of what the world once was. Well worth reading.
