Straight to the point, Fay Weldon's wit is acerbic to a fault, and I could find no fault here. Highly recommended.

When they call it a "black comedy", they're not kidding. I admire Weldon, and hve read a lot of her work over the years- and this one is especially grim, even for her. It is interesting, since synchronicity meant I read this right after "The Overdue Life of Amy Byler", which starts with a pretty similar premise but goes a VERY different way! "Byler" is excellent "chick lit"... "Heart" is a pretty damning take on Thatcher's Britain, as experienced by actual people. Again- NOT nice... but worth reading, I think.

Gorgeous book….full of Fay's wonderful take on life!

I have loved Fay Weldon's work for many years. She has a distinctive style - witty, trenchant, Vonnegut-like. You know how sometimes when reading you can skip some of the exposition just to get to the good parts? You can't do that with Fay. Every line is rewarding. This book has something to say about rural culture, hypocrisy, class, and, like all of her books, the things that women put up with to make their way in the world. If you like your humor dry, this one's for you.

It probably wouldn't be the type of thing i would read normally. but I needed the English version to go along with it, Perfect course in slang Norwegian style. thankyou.
