Selected as one of the 100 Best Books of the Century by the National Education Association.

William Steig' s work has received countless honors and awards. Called the "King of Cartoons" by Newsweek, his cartoons in such magazines as the New Yorker and his books of symbolic drawings have inspired a multitude of cartoonists and artists. His books for children are loved by readers young and old. William Steig received the Caldecott Medal for Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, the Caldecott Honor Award for The Amazing Bone, and the Newbery Honor Award for Abel's Island and Doctor De Soto. Just outside his studio window stood a large rock that looked remarkably like Sylvester. He liked that.

Reviews

  • Meraviglioso

È adatto a bambini dai 3 anni in su

  • Excellent stories, nicely illustrated and engaging!

Bill Peet is my favourite children's author. They were written in the 60's and 70's i believe and I found in 2019 the kindergartners could not sit through a single reading. However, i was reminded by more than one student it was time to find out what happens to Sylvester!

  • Favorite childhood book

This is my favorite book from my childhood. I read it all the time as a child and then purchased it when I had my own children and read it to them often. I now have two grandsons and I bought this copy for them. We were visiting them in Alaska when I ordered it. Fortunately, it arrived before our visit ended and I was able to read it to them in person. My four-year-old grandson asked me to read it several times while I was there. I still own the copy I had with my now grown children. I told my grandson to call me anytime on video chat and I could read to him and his little brother from my copy while they read along in theirs. We live in South Carolina and it means the world to me to spend any time with them. I don’t know why I love this book so much, but it is a sweet story about realizing that having a loving family is more important than all the material possessions in the world. It seems to sum up the way I feel about my children and grandchildren and how much they matter. If you decide to order this, I hope you enjoy it as much as I always have. I find it touching, has a soothing tone, and cute characters.
