• レトロでポップ

  版画のようなレトロな線、べた塗りのポップな色使いの絵がなんとも味わいのある雰囲気を作っています。男の子がキングとクイーンの招待で、次々と動物が登場します。最後はなんと…。 短くてやさしい英文と繰り返しの"May I---"で、英語を勉強しはじめたお子様にいいかもしれません。本文中の絵は表紙のような赤やピンク、オレンジなどを基調にした絵になっています。

• 言葉のリズムと絵が素敵！

  絵が気に入り、購入しました！ こども（6歳、男児）も気に入り、毎晩繰り返し、読んでいます！ 男の子と、王様、お妃様の会話の繰り返しがこどもは気に入っているよう。 いろんなお客様が現れるのが楽しいみたい。 私は絵や色彩が温かみがあってすこしぽわんとしている所が好きです。

• 豪快ながらもほのぼのしていて平和な絵本でした

• とってもレトロ

  スマホ世代の子供が、勝手に読んで勝手に理解して、勝手に好きになる本ではないと思います。大人が、優しく読んであげるのがいいと思います。「おうさまとおきさきさま」とは何なのか、どうして動物と人間が友達になったのか、など、理屈ではなく、ただただ一緒に夢見て、楽しい世界に引き込むような語りかけをしてあげたら、一緒に吸い込まれていくでしょう。ハロウィーンが出てくるので、10月の読書にもいいですね。

• 意外にもこどもに好評

  最初手に取った時は、絵も内容も子供向けではない気がしていましたが、実際に子供に読んでみると、すっかり気に入ってしまったようで、何度も読まされました。｢ともだちつれてよろしいですか｣というフレーズが気に入ってしまったらしく、何度もまねをして言っています。渋い絵と、繰り返しの内容が子供にはうけたようです。

• 子供は話の展開に引き込まれていくでしょう

  王様と女王様が少年をお茶に招待する所からこの話は始まります。 「お友達を連れてきていいですか？」・・・私はこの本からこの表現を学びました。 少年は次から次へととんでもない友達を連れてきます。 The Caldecott Medalも受賞しているとてもよい本だと思います。私の子供はこの本が大好きですが、私は絵がちょっと好きになれないので間をとって☆４つにさせていただきました。

• Piccola neraviglia

  Illustratore ingiustamente poco conosciuto. Peccato perché ha un tratto visionario e magico. Ho fatto la fotocopia ingrandita di alcune illustrazioni per appenderle in casa!

• Nice book for a toddler who starts reading

• The anticipation was fun for my son

  I liked the lessons taught of being polite and reciprocating invitations to your home. My 3yo son loved the anticipation of finding out which friend the boy would invite to the King and Queen's house, next.

• A great read-aloud !

  An older classic Caldecott Medal winner, May I Bring A Friend is a charming rhyming verse with a repetitive part. This is perfect for exposing children to the rhyme ant meter of verse. The plot revolves around children asking to bring various animals to see the king and queen. When read aloud, the text begs for children to join in the retelling. Perfect for children age 3 -5. Note: If children are not familiar with “going to tea” as in a light meal in which tea is enjoyed, that concept may need to be explained before reading. Highly recommend! A fun little book, very enjoyable.

• A Childhood favorite that I still adore!

  This was one of my favorite books as a kid and I had a copy that my mom read to me so much that the jacket literally came off of it and she kept having to glue it back on and staple the book back together. It's a simple story but at the age of 4 and 5 I appreciate the rhyming as it helped me memorize the story. I LOVED the animals in the story and precarious situation of having a giraffe over for dinner. I also really loved the bold, vivid colors of the book. The illustrations are so different. This book also has not real peril. It really is just a story of a friendly Queen and King who seem ready to take on almost any guest as long as he's a friend of thier friend. A boy with animal friends? I wanted him to bring all his friends to my house for dinner. I still adore this book!
