Winner of the Caldecott Medal. From children's book author Sorche Nic Leodhas and illustrator Nonny Hogrogian comes a heartwarming story, Always Room for One More. Lachie MacLachlan, the generous hero of this enchanting tale, is the exception to the rule that the Scots are a thrifty lot. In his "wee house in the heather," where he lives with his family of twelve, he welcomes to his hearth every weary traveler who passes by on a stormy night. "There's always room for one more," says Lachie, and how his grateful guests say a wonderful "Thank you" provides a delightfully warm and tender ending to this hilarious tale of kindness. Always Room for One More is the winner of the 1966 Caldecott Medal.
Sorche Nic Leodhas , author of Thistle and Thyme , a Newbery Honor Book, turns to her childhood to retell this Scottish folktale that was passed on to her by her own grandfather. She has written many books for young people, among them All in the Morning Early . Nonny Hogrogian , twice winner of the Caldecott Medal, for Always Room for One More and One Fine Day , has illustrated numerous books for young people.

I was very pleased to find this available and still in print! It is great to have a copy of this song recorded by Sorche Nic Leodhas and I hope to pass it on to my grand children.

Nice book. Good for 4-5 year olds,

One of my all-time favorite books from childhood that I now can read to my children. Good rhyming, built on traditional song and has a strong indisputable moral to the story-there’s always room for one more.

Our family has Scottish roots, so I like that this book is a traditional Scottish song and includes a glossary of terms at the back. My 9-year-old really likes it. I was surprised to see that it's considered a third-to-fourth grade reading level at her school, where they use a levelled system from A to Z. It would be appealing to younger children too if read or sung aloud.
