The Leo Frank Case (A Brown Thrasher Book)
Centering on the 1913 murder of Mary Phagan, Leo Frank's trial, and the later lynching, the book shows how antisemitism, mob pressure, and a fragile legal process deepened the tragedy. It has long been read as a substantial historical account that traces Southern prejudice through one defining case.
Work Information
A single case that casts sharp light on prejudice and judicial failure in the American South.
The book follows the 1913 murder of Mary Phagan, the accusation against Leo Frank, the trial, and the lynching that followed, including the role of the press and the climate of local society. It is a history book written in a restrained style that shows how antisemitism, public agitation, and legal weakness reinforced one another.

Readers value the careful organization of the case background and the restrained, readable style. Its documentary depth and cautious judgment are praised, though some also find the material demanding because of its weight.

I had heard the stories of Leo Frank and Mary ...
I had heard the stories of Leo Frank and Mary Phagan since childhood. I wanted to read the account of the story from someone searching for the facts. This book was everything I expected.

Wonderful
First, thank you Dinnerstein and appreciate more his humility to say Oney was "definitive" on subject. This is a wonderful primer to Frank's injustice. Easy reading. Even truncated it's a wonderful, informative read. HIGHLY recommended. Had the knowledge it was a Jew, NOT BLACK, who first 1920's lynching, but good to have it confirmed. He, unfortunately, does not convey the hatred more towards Jews that blacks. But as Dinnerstein writes - "the definitive is Oney."

The tragedy of Leo Frank
This was a tragedy indeed - the hanging of an innocent man for a murder he did not commit. It should be required reading for everyone. The book arrived in perfect condition in a timely manner and I would do business again.
