Reviews

  • Mark Shand war ein geiler Typ

Ein interessantes Buch eines Abenteurers mit Gewissen und Engagement! Und er war wirklich so - ich habe ihn einmal kennengelernt - crazy Englishman... Inspirierend, interessant, kurzweilig.

  • great story

Mark Shand's adventure in India was a marvelous story. I have loaned it out with the promise it will be returned. It will be kept in my permanent library ! Highly recommend this book.

  • An Hilarious Moving Travelogue

This hilariously funny, moving book about Mark Shand and his elephant Tara remains a favourite travelogue of mine. The people, places, scent and feel of India are all beautifully documented.

  • Great book worth reading.

Loved this book. Geographically & culturally educational.

  • Truly adventurous

Mrak Shand's book, "Travels on my Elephant" is a remarkable story of his grueling trip in 1988, from Konark to Sonepur riding Tara his favourite elephant. The book is a magnificent account of human endurance as they traverse deep ravines of the eastern ghats and travel through hot and arid tribal belts of Orissa and Bihar. Pitching tents in rural villages every night, Shand and his team enjoy food, festivals and hospitality of rustic India that make the trip unique and memorable. The arduous journey results in Shand developing deep and intense emotional attachment towards Tara, leading to his establishing "Elephant Family", a leading welfare organization in UK for the protection of Asian elephants.
