The next clue is waiting deep inside the caves.
The first Troop 13 Mysteries book by Penny Warner. Set against a scout camp and a cave exploration, it reads as a brisk adventure in which clue-hunting naturally turns into a mystery. A Japanese edition was later published by KADOKAWA as "Futago Tantei 1: Yurei Yashiki no Ango."

Mystery for young girls!
Thirteen-year-old Becca and her friends Sierra, CJ, and Jonnie have arrived at the Gold Rush Jamboree and they are committed to winning the gold medal for Troop 13. They face stiff competition from Troop 7, whose members love to pull pranks on them. When Becca and her friends find a mysterious clue that hints at buried treasure in Camp Miwok’s Haunted Caves, Becca and her friends are intent on finding it. But, other people are on the trail of the treasure, and they don’t like anyone getting in their way. This is a great middle grade mystery for girls. It’s full of mystery, suspense, and fun. The plot had some intriguing twists. I love the friendship displayed between the main characters. These girls stand up and look out for each other. They are strong and confident. I would recommend this read to any young girl looking for a good mystery.

Great Mystery
I have to say I really loved these books. They reminded me of reading The Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew when I was a child. I loved how much knowledge about the area or subject was put into each story. In The Mystery of Haunted Cave the girls not only had to earn their badges, but they had to search for a treasure they weren't sure existed. They had to rappel, solve a puzzle while making their way through caves and then set a trap that would not harm the animal they caught. Readers get an insight into scouting and mining. These books will definitely have a place on my shelf at school.
