-
as usual her stories to me are 5 star/

This is a collection of short stories, based on the author's acquaintances and experiences in Florida. I enjoyed all of the stories. I fell in love with the author, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, when I read Cross Creek. Cross Creek is about her experiences living in a relatively primitive area of Florida mostly in the 1930's and 40's. Her homestead in Florida is now a state park. She also wrote The Yearling, which was made into a movie.
-
I liked the authenticity of this book. The author wrote from the viewpoint of her subjects. How refreshing that she is not politically correct but gives a true view of the people and the times. For those who care to understand Rawlings this is a delightful read.

it's ok, for an old library book, it can be read and that's what matters. And i don't have to return it.
-
The author, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, is a great novelist and a master of the short story genre, a collection of which are in When the Whippoorwill; she has no peer in accurately depicting the complexites of the poor, uneducated, backwoods Floridians of years past.
