Warning Spanglish
Overall this is a decent collection of impressionist war short fiction. However the author uses a literary technique that greatly annoys me. He writes in English about characters who are speaking to each other in Spanish and tries to convoy this feeling by having random sentences and phrases in Spanish. Yes, one can puzzle it out even with no knowledge of the Spanish language thanks to things like BableFish but it is an annoying affectation. I could understand if the book was written in Spanish. But random Spanish is just hokey and affected. IMO. YMMV.
