Reviews

  • SO worth the Read!

I loved how this anthology showed the dynamism of the Lesbian (and 'coming out' experience): From senior women to young girls in their early twenties, whether born in the US / Caribbean / UK / Canada . . . such a wealth of experiences displayed here. I am a male in my mid-30's and found this book very accessible. I think this was published like 20 years ago, but the stories are still very timely and the emotional journeys universal.

  • Liberation

I love this book. One paragraph stood out to me. I've read it over and over. It's from "Pure" by Tonia Byran. "Written in fear. Wondering if I too will be cast out or ostracized because I dare to think for myself, if I speak the wrong words or entertain thoughts that deviate from the supposed normalcy of the collective mentality. What does it mean when the lives and communities we build to safeguard ourselves from oppression become almost unsafe and censoring as the outside world? When truth-telling and exploration are perceived as a threat? What does it say for the future of feminism when often it is not the strength of a woman's convictions but her ability to fit in, that defines real commitment to THE CAUSE?"

  • Great book

I absolutely love this book. It is filled with short stories that are interesting and exciting and thought provoking. I would recommend it to anyone thinking about buying it and even to those who weren't. You will not be dissapointed. A must read for all lesbians of color and lesbians in general.

  • Four Stars

Great anthology. You will see yourself here. Don't loan it out - it'll get jacked.

  • Feels Like Home

I am satisfied with this book because of the diverse stories. I especially like the stories about mothers not accepting their daughters as they are...I can relate.
