Work Information

On the eve of empire, Caesar's choices begin to determine Rome's future.

Imperial Caesar does not flatten Caesar into a simple heroic figure; it presents him as a man whose military talent and political instinct work together. Its strength lies in turning a vast historical transition into an accumulation of personal judgments seen from inside the moment.

Reviews

  • Rex Warner has written a masterful historical novel. He tells the history of the late Roman republic through the eyes of Julius Caesar. This book and The Young Caesar also by Rex Warner are as entertaining as Robert Graves’ I, Claudius and Claudius the God.
