I had to buy this as a used copy, since I could not find it anywhere else. I am glad I did. Once again his prose is magnificent. Henry is so complex and fascinating. I can't wait to .

A super suspense filled story. Plenty of twists and turns keep you engaged.

This was a disappointing read, especially as Michael Nava has been praised by critics. Perhaps the series improves?

I enjoy reading about Henry Rios. A good detective who is not defined by his sexuality, but who is not ashamed of it, either. It's great to read a good, solid mystery with real and likable characters with dimensions and flaws. It's also great to read a LGBTQ book that is not defined by the main character's sexuality, or that does not feel like an excuse to string together multiple sex scenes. Rios is a great defense lawyer, and sometimes I find myself wishing he was a detective or Private Investigator in title as well as in practice. With this book, Nava takes a bald look at what it means to be gay in the 1980's; the tropes, the prejudices, and the assumptions that even today many employers and landlords get away with. He puts forward and then takes apart these tropes and prejudices one by one, revealing them to be the empty-headed tripe they are. Goldenboy (The Henry Rios Mysteries Book 2)

"Goldenboy' is a great story, keeping your interest until the last word. Writer Michael Nava knows the LA scene very well, and uses the descriptions to full effect. the sublplots, twists, and turns of the various characters area always good surprises. My favorite in this series is "The Burning Plain." I think that Nava's writing is at its best in a longer book, like "Burning ". However," Goldenboy" is perfect for getting you thoroughly into a story, and allowing you to totally clear your mind of anything else.
