Work Information
A quiet adventure of intellect, books, and conscience.
An early novel by Anatole France told in diary form. An elderly scholar living among books on the banks of the Seine travels to Sicily in search of a rare manuscript and, through a chain of unexpected events, is forced to reconsider his own honesty and desire. I learned so very much when looking up topics introduced in the body of the book. I would recommend it to anyone interested in history, France, plant propagation and old time manners. Keep your Kleenex handy. What a great 👍.

A nicely printed facsimile of the original book, which I first read back in the 1950s. Clear large type for easy reading.

This is an odd edition. There is no publishing information inside at all, other than 'Printed in Great Britain by Amazon'. It doesn't even say who translated it. The translation itself is well written, but it clearly hasn't been proofread at all. Within the first 5 pages: Page 1: 'His think find fur rose and fell' [thick, fine?] Page 2: 'I have just tow' [two] Page 5: 'I leaned that his wife' [learned]

This particular edition is unreadable due to the miniscule font size used to save money so the book could be squeezed into 79 pages. And my vision is 20/20. Truly obnoxious. Not to mention the sloppy copy editing with a typo every few lines!!! Amazon should never inflict such a travesty on loyal customers.
