Adventure through Sweden in this beautifully illustrated and sensitively abridged edition of Selma Lagerlöf's classic Swedish tale. When schoolboy Nils is magically shrunk to a tiny size, he begins a perilous journey traveling the length of Sweden. Soaring through the sky on the back of a goose, Nils discovers the wild and the wondrous: from frozen lakes and snow-topped mountains to lost cities, new friends and dangerous foes. Will he ever be able to return to his former life and his former size?
Selma Lagerlof (1858-1940) was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. Lars Klinting (1948-2006) was a much-loved Swedish author and illustrator. Lars created numerous children's books including the Handy Harvey series, which became popular all over the world and illustrated books by Astrid Lindgren and Selma Lagerlof. He won the Elsa Beskow Plaque in 1987.

I used to watch The Wonderful Adventures of Nils as a cartoon when I was a child and had no idea there was a book behind it until much later. I now own the full edition at home and have read it more times than I can count — it’s a truly magical story that always takes me right back to my childhood. This particular edition is beautifully illustrated, and the artwork complements the story perfectly, adding extra charm and warmth to each page. It’s a lovely version to read aloud, especially for bedtime — engaging, gentle, and full of imagination. The only reason I’ve given it four stars instead of five is because this is not the complete edition of the story. If you're looking for the full original version, you might want to check carefully before purchasing. But as a standalone or an introduction to the story, this edition is wonderful and highly recommended for both children and nostalgic adults alike.
