*'The Republic of Motherhood' Winner of the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem* ‘I crossed the border into the Republic of Motherhood and found it a queendom, a wild queendom.’ In this bold and resonant gathering of poems, Liz Berry turns her distinctive voice to the transformative experience of new motherhood. Her poems sing the body electric, from the joy and anguish of becoming a mother, through its darkest hours to its brightest days. With honesty and unabashed beauty, they bear witness to that most tender of times – when a new life arrives, and everything changes.

Liz Berry was born in the Black Country and now lives in Birmingham. Sublime
Beautiful and compelling in every mode of expression. The portrayal of motherhood and love—young and old, captures candid life in just a few pages.

A sensational pamphlet, bursts the skinned silence of birthing and Motherhood
Many will have already said how wonderful Liz Berry's poetry is. This is everything I expected and more. If you've had a difficult birthing experience or know someone who has, these words will bring both comfort, acceptance, and that complicit voice of a friend who's walked with "our Lady of the Birth Trauma' and felt dazed. This is what great poetry does - makes your embodied experience heard, understood. Thank you Liz. I can't recommend this highly enough: for poets, for mothers, for mothers-who've-lost, for anyone who loves language from one of the most incredible poets alive today!
