Just buy it!!!!!
Randa Jarrar is one of the funniest, most brilliant writers out there. This book is so beautifully different than any other I've read on Palestinian diaspora, and as a Palestinian-American reader, I am just so grateful to Randa for making me and so many family members I gifted this book to, feel so seen and represented outside of our dehumanization. My mother loved the book just as much as I did, and ended up reading it so quickly after it arrived! So hard to put this one down. Contrary to the racist 1 star reviews (a result of Randa being doxxed by white nationalists - shame on Amazon for not deleting these reviews), this book is phenomenal and so revolutionary.

Loved this book
Loved this book. The stories are engaging. The characters are dynamic and "real" (even when they're fantastical, as with the half-human half Ibex character). The ideas and themes in the stories are relevant and dealt with intelligence, care, and insight. And, if all this isn't enough, know that when you read these, you'll find yourself going through a wide variety of emotions, from feeling tense and on the edge of your seat to laughing out loud.

What is so perfect about her style of writing is that it leaves ...
Randa Jarrar is one of the few writers I know who can provoke that simultaneous laugh/cry feeling. Her writing is unsentimental and real. What is so perfect about her style of writing is that it leaves a lot of room for the reader to fill in the blanks with one's own life experience, making the stories and characters even more relatable.

Talent to be enjoyed by all
Jarrar's collection is a delight! From poetic prose of magical realism to creative stories of people from many walks of life. Her Egyptian culture is a part of many stories and feels very accessible to even the most ignorant. As a teacher I feel this is what should replace the white canonalical texts in college English textbooks.

Five Stars
Brilliant and bold short story collection. Full of strong girls and women and interlaced at times with magic.
