A little known masterpiece that is both chilling and absorbing. It is set in the France of the 1920's and presents the reader with a complex story of anti-semitism in an elite boy's school. The novel is noteworthy for its foreshadowing of what will occur during the Second World War when France's Jews were subjected to horrific persecution under the Vichy Government led by Marshal Petain. The Novel is brief in length but devastating in terms of its implications for French Society.
Magnifique œuvre, quelle histoire, un auteur largement en avance sur son temps. Je recommande cette lecture à tout esprit curieux de la pensée de la société du début du 20e.
Lacretelle échappe au simplisme et aux bons sentiments. Il nous fait découvrir une époque et des conflits que l'on avaient oubliés . Livre bref et percutant, à la chute inattendue.
