Work Information
A quiet adventure of intellect, books, and conscience.
An early novel by Anatole France told in diary form. An elderly scholar living among books on the banks of the Seine travels to Sicily in search of a rare manuscript and, through a chain of unexpected events, is forced to reconsider his own honesty and desire. In the Iwanami Bunko edition translated by Takehiko Ibuki, it offers the calm of a classic and the appeal of a true book lover.
