傑作！
同名の映画の原作である本書は、映画とは比べようもない傑作です。 アフリカが舞台という点も新鮮です。 ただし、これがアパルトヘイトを白人の視点から、白人の都合の良いように描いたもの、と言う批判は免れません。主人公のピーケイは白人で、その彼が対立する黒人の部族をひとつにする・・・というシーンなど、白人を美化しすぎています。これは、白人はアパルトヘイトで黒人に対してこんなにひどいことをしたけれども、こんなに黒人のためを思っていたいいヤツもいたんだよ、というようなものでしょう。 その点に目をつぶれば、本書はユーモアたっぷり、話の展開も痛快で、とても面白く読める本です。
