Le Realta Del Caravaggio
An art-historical monograph that reads Caravaggio's life and work through the intersections of documents, iconography, and the culture of his time. It traces the tension between violence and redemption, naturalism and religiosity, and places the painter's art in a fully historical frame.
Work Information
The book digs into Caravaggio's pictorial world from both documentary and iconographic angles.
Le realtà del Caravaggio is one of Maurizio Calvesi's representative studies, offering a comprehensive rereading of Caravaggio's work and life. As the bibliographic records on Google Books and WorldCat indicate, the book uses iconographic and documentary evidence to move beyond mythmaking toward a historically grounded portrait of the painter, and it has long served as a key reference in Caravaggio scholarship.

Saggio imperdibile
