Poems deal with the concept of time, destiny, and the influence of the past

In addition to her two earlier collections of poetry, Gathering the Tribes and The Country Between Us , Carolyn Forché has published most recently the anthology that she edited entitled Against Forgetting: Twentieth-Century Poetry of Witness. She lives in Maryland with her husband and son.

  • Carolyn Forche, a rare writer exploring into her own genuine territory, crawling through it in a passion to finger the real mysterium living in the sub-text psychic metaview. Mixed in results but who isn't, or wouldn't be, if we were to make a like journey?

  • Rereading Forche's Angel of History years later it still sings as it did when it first came out. Maybe a tiny bit out of tune in some ways. But Forche's poems have a way of staying with one for a long time. I took away a star because I loved it more when it first came out then I did on a recent read. My fault, not the poet's. Give it back the star if you want. When I read it again, I no doubt will.

  • Not so much into poetry I saw the author speak on a special about the Statue of Liberty & felt like giving one a try. Worth it.

  • This book is full of symbolism, and while the syntax and rhythm are just a bit hard to follow, I love the meaning behind the words. An excellent book, but not for you if you're not up for reading between the lines to find the true meaning of it all.
