Tyke Tiler is very fond of practical jokes. Tyke is also fond of Danny Price, who is not too bright and depends a lot on his friends. Together Tyke and Danny add up to double trouble, especially during their last term at Cricklepitt Combined School.

Gene Kemp (1926-2015) grew up in Staffordshire. She studied at Exeter University and became a teacher. Her first novel The Pride of Tamworth Pig was published in 1972. She became best known for her Cricklepit stories including The Turbulent Term of Tyke Tyler which won her the Library Association's Carnegie Medal and the 1977 Other Award. In 1984 she was awarded an honorary Master of Arts degree by Exeter University in recognition of her achievements.

レビュー

  • Satisfait

  • Ok, if your children are too cool for school, they might find this a bit too retro(!) but my 9yr old son and I read this together and really enjoyed this story. He found it funny, sometimes poignant but overall very entertaining and could relate to the middle-school element. A sweet book to wean the Wimpy Kid/Captain Underpants "tween"back into chapter books.

  • A beautiful story. If read carefully it should make you question your own assumptions, and admire the premise which underpins the whole thing and how carefully it works .

  • I remember reading this as a whole classroom group way back in Primary School. The teacher set us a task to write what we thought of the main character before we read the last chapter. The boys all thought Tyler was brilliant! The girls were less than impressed with this 'typical boy'. I clearly remember the stunned silence in the room when the teacher read that last line, and boy did opinions change. The boys suddenly hated Tyler, the girls response was mixed with some unimpressed and some now admiring her. As a Tom Boy it left a lasting impression on young me, so when I saw it was still in print I bought it for my Non Binary kid, I hope they love the ending as much as I did.
