Winner of the Caldecott Medal! A Coretta Scott King Award Author and Illustrator Honor book, a National Book Award finalist, and a New York Times bestseller! This deeply moving story shares valuable lessons about fitting in, standing out, and the beauty of joyful acceptance, from an award-winning creator. The first picture book written and illustrated by award-winning creator Vashti Harrison traces a child’s journey to self-love and shows the power of words to both hurt and heal. With spare text and exquisite illustrations, this emotional exploration of being big in a world that prizes small is a tender portrayal of how you can stand out and feel invisible at the same time.

Vashti Harrison is the New York Times bestselling creator of Big , which was awarded the 2024 Caldecott Medal, a Coretta Scott King Book Award Author Honor, and a Coretta Scott King Book Award Illustrator Honor, in addition to being a National Book Award finalist. Vashti is also the #1 New York Times bestselling creator of Little Leaders , Little Dreamers , and Little Legends , and the illustrator of Lupita Nyong’o’s Sulwe (for which she received a Coretta Scott King Book Award Illustrator Honor), Matthew A. Cherry’s Hair Love , Andrea Beaty's I Love You Like Yellow , and Stephanie V.W. レビュー

  • Beautiful book

My husband saw this on the daily show and asked me to order it. I had no idea what it was about but read it when it got delivered. It is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read. I cried. I will be reading this book to my newborn daughter for years to come and reinforcing its message over and over. I never expected a children’s book to make me feel so seen. Artwork is also beautiful and clever.

  • Amazing book

This book felt like a hug to my inner child - I bought it for myself and brought me to tears. The story is very close to my heart. The illustrations are beautiful and all the details are incredible. I would absolutely recommend.

  • Cute and artsy

Cute book. Good read for any kids with issues being "big". Pretty illustrations but a little difficult for a small child to follow, especially when they want to read the words. Good storytelling. Be aware: Barely has any words in it. Multiple pages only have a picture of the character. This book is very "artsy" and symbolic just to give you an idea, which although some people may find off-putting or whatever it is a good book to have an open discussion with your kids. Ex: My 4yo initially found this book to be a bit confusing and took some of the images a bit too literally, but is still a favorite in our book rotation. Would recommend.
