This is the third copy I have bought!
I keep buying this book and giving it away where it is ALWAYS appreciated warmly. This is a wonderful book with much wisdom and says more in 150 pages than many other books manage in twice as much. Just buy it and read it.

Fun to share!
Saw the play first, but as usual, even tho the play was GREAT, the book was better! A few things I didn't quite get in the play were explained in the book. It's a very easy read and a small book so travels easily. Worth every penny and even bought one for a gift!

A storm turned into light rain
So delicate. I was impressed by the way the author turned tense and tragic situations into something easier to read. He did so by giving us the child's point of view, and children always find a way to beat a tragedy by trying to give it another light. I loved this book.

He shook mother by the shoulder. She scrambled up, her nose was bleeding...
Thomas's father is a religious bigot. That's the problem. If you can believe that one small boy and his sister, with the help of some aunts and the old lady next door with her Beethoven records, plus a little Satchmo, can cure him of his urge to hit anyone who disagrees with him, well, this is the book for you. If you can't believe that, if in fact you cannot buy into the triumph of innocence against adversity, this book might be dangerous in the wrong hands. Most books have an element of that, but the Bible is the one that can turn a man into a beast, and a woman too, I daresay. But still, if Thomas has learned how not to let fear win, that may be enough. And it doesn't look as if Thomas's sister Margot will allow any backsliding. Long live Thomas and his Reading Aloud Club.
