ジョアン・カブラル・デ・メロ・ネト（1920-1999）はブラジル・ペルナンブーコ州出身の詩人・外交官。後期ブラジル近代主義を代表する詩人であり、その作品はペルナンブーコ北東部の農村貧困や社会的不平等を主題とし、無駄を削ぎ落とした簡潔な言語と厳格な詩的構造で知られる。代表作『セヴェリーナの死と生』（1956年）は社会詩の傑作として広く称えられる。1990年カモンイス賞および1992年ノイシュタット国際文学賞を受賞した。

カモンイス賞は1988年よりブラジルとポルトガルが共同授与するポルトガル語文学の最高賞。1990年の受賞者ジョアン・カブラル・デ・メロ・ネトは「詩人=エンジニア」の異名を持ち、感情的過剰を退けた精密な詩語で知られる。外交官としてスペインや英国など各国に赴任しながら詩作を続け、アンダルシア文化やフラメンコとの親交も作品に反映されている。代表詩集には『ペドラ・ド・ソーノ』（1942）、『セヴェリーナの死と生』（1956）、『石による教育』（1966）などがある。
