Winner of the Newbery Medal―a brilliant journey through the stars, to the very heart of what makes us human. “Gripping in its twists and turns, and moving in its themes ― truly a beautiful cuento.”― New York Times Había una vez . . . There lived a girl named Petra Peña, who wanted nothing more than to be a storyteller, like her abuelita. But Petra’s world is ending. Earth has been destroyed by a comet, and only a few hundred scientists and their children ― among them Petra and her family ― have been chosen to journey to a new planet. They are the ones who must carry on the human race. Hundreds of years later, Petra wakes to this new planet ― and the discovery that she is the only person who remembers Earth. A sinister Collective has taken over the ship during its journey, bent on erasing the sins of humanity’s past. They have systematically purged the memories of all aboard ― or purged them altogether. Petra alone now carries the stories of our past, and with them, any hope for our future. Can she make them live again? A girl and his family was put into a cryogenic sleep for hundreds of years to travel to a faraway planet after Earth has been destroyed by a comet. It’s a story of hope, love, family and dreams woven together so beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I hope the author gets to read this review and give us a sequel very soon.

The book came wrapped nicely in plastic, there were no bent pages whatsoever.Although my ten - year old daughter found it quite boring, I find it as an interesting book and do recommend it!!

The book itself feels absolutely incredible to touch and hold. It has really deep vocabulary and syntax, and it uses an array of literary devices. I wouldn’t say the story is that engaging as it moves really slow and I’m not a fan of the ending and how abruptly it ends, however, it is a unique story and I really appreciated getting to read something through a different cultural lens. For example, I love dystopian literature and have read a lot from Russian authors and American authors, but I have not read a dystopian book from Mexican culture. I appreciated hearing the legends and I appreciated how the author Incorporated Spanish into the book and the audio reading was excellent paired with this so I could hear everything in the accent that the speaker and writer was using. Great overall book, however I would not read it again.

WOW! Just WOW! What an incredibly beautiful story. I'm not sure how to describe this unbelievably unique book. A sci-fi story, so unbelievably gripping and fascinating, I couldn't stop reading it. Yes, it's a YA (not middle-grade in my opinion) book, but to be honest, it's so incredibly well-written that I enjoyed it more than many adult versions of post-apocalyptic sci-fi stories. This story tells, in an incredibly fascinating way, what could happen in our possible future. A post-apocalyptic future world that is so incredibly gruesome and unimaginable that I just hope it never happens. From another perspective, I can understand the characters of the future very well. I mean, the "good guys" and the "bad guys." The question that arises for me here is, who is the villain and who are the victims? I believe the author leaves that judgment up to the readers. The question here is, what would I do in the characters' place? Which solution would I choose? The easy way out or the difficult path, but one that leads to freedom? This amazing story is not a romance, but it's a victory ode to life.

I love this book so much the amount of twist and terns remind me of the great fire snake. It is sad but in a go way and I strongly suggest it.
